Lyda Law Firm recently received a sum-certain award of attorney fees in a major case it handled for a valued client. The client is Weekly Focus, a Korean-language newspaper (itself celebrating ten years in business this month), which was involved in a pair of lawsuits against the owners of a competitor publication. BusinessDen covered the companion case here (the companion case settled amicably).
In this case, Weekly Focus was defending against claims of defamation and commercial disparagement. Judge Horton of the District Court for Arapahoe County awarded summary judgment in favor of Weekly Focus for the reasons stated in Weekly Focus's brief. The Court also ordered the plaintiff/counterclaim defendants to pay all of Weekly Focus's attorney fees for discovery in the case.
