May was another busy month for Eve Lumsden, Lyda Law Firm’s Florida attorney! Eve had the privilege of meeting with Todd Bryant, CFP, founding partner of Signature Wealth Partners in downtown Orlando. Thanks to some amazing timing, Eve received an autographed copy of the new hit book “More Than Money; Real-Life Stories of Financial Planning which hit bookshelves in March of this year and sold out quickly. Eve’s favorite part of the book? Todd’s chapter, “A Change of (Retirement) Plans,” about a couple whose retirement was thrown for a loop upon the passing of their daughter and taking custody of young twin boys. Though sad, the chapter teaches a valuable lesson: that diligent financial planning can help us prepare for unforeseen circumstances that can change our lives. While there, she donated a bottle of bourbon to the We Are Winter Garden’s Run for the Roses hosted by the dedicated ladies of the West Orange Service League. 1

Eve was off next to the Orange County Bar Association Young Lawyers Board and Chair Retreat (what a mouthful!) to take on her new role as Co-Chair of the Annual OCBA YLS Golf Tournament. This tournament is the primary fundraising event of the OCBA YLS and fills up quickly, so if you’re interested, send Eve a message so that she can keep you on the “update” list! Spending an afternoon with these driven and energetic peers has her ready to go show off her great planning, and very poor golf, skills to raise lots of money.   2

Eve attended the first-ever end-of-year Gala for the Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers to culminate her second year as the Young Lawyers’ Director, and to be sworn in in her new role as Treasurer for the Association. This is Eve’s longest-running voluntary bar association involvement and one that she cherishes for the friends she has made and the valuable work they do in the community. She welcomes anyone, attorney or non-attorney, to contact her if they want to get involved with CFAWL’s charitable endeavors.3,4

Next it was off to speak about how to introduce life insurance clients to estate planning with the dynamic New York Life team in Maitland, led by Jesus Barnfield. This team had some of the best questions of any speaking engagement prior, and their dedication to providing a full-service, client-focused experience to each of their customers is a professional trait close to Eve’s heart. She is so grateful for the opportunity to spend time with this amazing team!5

Eve led the “Body by CFAWL” team in the Annual OCBA YLS Health & Wellness challenge from May 1 – May 25, where the team came in second place and Eve came in first individually! She would like to thank OCBA YLS for a fun and challenging month, and thank her team, her family, and her complete inability to sit still.

The month closed with an unexpected surprise – Eve’s appointment as Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association’s General Practice, Solo, and Small Firm Estate and Financial Planning Division for the 2023 – 2024 year. The upcoming year will mean lots of travel, collaboration with attorneys around the country, and work to help ensure that solo practitioners and small firms who handle estate and financial planning have the support and resources to be successful while giving back to their communities and peers. This is one of the highest honors that Eve has received as a practicing attorney, and not one that she takes lightly. Look for her initiatives coming later this year.6
