Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) Overview

The FFCRA, passed along with the CARES Act, deals not with economic stimulus packages. Rather, it requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave, and expanded family and medical leave.

What Is Covered Under FFCRA? 

Private employers (and some public employers) with 500 or less employees will be required to provide employees with up to two weeks of paid sick leave, until December 31, 2020.

Employees will be eligible to receive 100% of their paycheck, up to $511.00 daily and up to $5,110.00 over two weeks total if they are subject to a quarantine order by government officials, recommended to self-quarantine by a medical professional, or experiencing Coronavirus symptoms while seeking a diagnosis.

Employees will be eligible for two-thirds of their pay for up to two weeks, up to $200.00 daily and up to $2,000.00 total if they are caring for an individual subjected to quarantine, or experiencing substantially similar conditions as defined by the Department of Health and Human Services. 

Employees may also be eligible for up to 12 weeks of partially paid leave at two-thirds of their normal pay, up to $200.000 daily and $12,000.00 total if the employee if caring for a child whose school or place of care is closed due to Coronavirus restrictions.
